Interview with Forlorn Path

 forlorn path

Forlorn Path is a melodic black death metal band from the States (NJ) that in 2013 released their first full length “Man’s Last Portrait” with acclaimed critics. Dave and Yuriy kindly answered our questionnaire.

Define Forlorn Path in one tweet (140 characters)

Dave: Brooding, in your face blackened doom metal. I don’t have a Twitter and I’m terrible at this.

Yuriy: Darkness with a glimmer of hope. Well, that’s how I might describe the music itself. I don’t know how I’d describe the band, really.

Whats is the current status of the band from a musical standpoint and why the audiene should give a chance to listening to Kostnitsa
Dave: We put a spin on black metal and doom metal that I have yet to hear replicated elsewhere. Our music is a unique synthesis of the genres with other elements borrowed from around the metal world. Plus, we’re handsome lads *laughs*
Yuriy: I think it’s as Dave said – we were trying to create a specific sound with Man’s Last Portrait. In some ways it’s similar to other metal bands out there, but there are some elements that set it apart. And I don’t think I’m alone in wanting to hear something like this.

How important are the lyrics, tell us the lyrical concept behind the music
Dave: Mostly the self-inflicted decay of society. We discuss the effects of things like materialism and modernity and how these forces can ultimately be destructive, and that people should look back to nature for comfort. Coincidentally, we’re pretty outdoorsy people.
Yuriy: I’d say the lyrics are a very important part of the album. The themes of loss, degradation of our world, and also, at times, hope…those are all integral to the music. The lyrics were written around certain ideas, just as the music, and we tried to make sure they convey the same message.

What are the bands’ aspirations. Where would you like to be in the next couple of years

Dave: Touring!!
Yuriy: I wouldn’t mind a tour either. And of course, writing new music.
Memento Mori: You can add whatever you consider opportune

Dave: Americans can make good metal too!!! Europe can’t have all the fun!

Yuriy: Support independent music. There are so many interesting artists out there – you just have to look beyond what’s promoted by the media. Not to say anything bad about the big label bands – but there’s so much great stuff out there that’s relatively unknown.
